The piston-filling Meisterstück in silver rather than resin, in excellent order.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe pen is the 146, the middle of the three Meisterstück piston fillers, with its cap and barrel made in sterling silver rather than black resin. Montblanc called the pattern Godron: fine parallel flutes engraved the full length of both parts, running unbroken from the cap top to the clip ring and from the section to the blind cap. There is no smooth cartouche cut for initials, and none were ever added. Because the flutes are engraved rather than pressed, the ridges have real edges, and the tarnish that has settled into the grooves over thirty years sits dark against the polished crests. It has not been polished out.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe trim is gold-plated and kept to a minimum: the sprung Meisterstück clip, the ring beneath the cap top, a broad band at the cap mouth engraved MONTBLANC - MEISTERSTÜCK between two plain rings, and one slim ring at the blind cap. The white star sits in the black cap top. The nib picks up the same scheme at the other end of the pen, a two-tone 18K 4810 with gold shoulders and tip and a rhodium-plated centre panel carrying the star, set into the black resin section with the Montblanc feed. Once the cap is off, the section is the only black on the pen.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt fills as every 146 does, by piston from the blind cap, and the piston runs the full stroke of the barrel smoothly. The tines are aligned and the tipping is intact. The Godron sterling 146 has been out of the Montblanc catalogue for years. This one is straight, unengraved and undented, with the early serial on the clip ring and the pattern intact along its whole length.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCondition is excellent. The tarnish is even in the flutes and the ridges are bright; there is a small smoothed patch beside the clip base where the cap has been handled, and a single dark speck on the cap band. The gold plating on the clip and rings is bright, with light rub at the clip ring.
