Two-Tone Rose Gold and Nickel Silver, c.1908-1910
Produced by the Elgin National Watch Co. around 1908-1910, this open face pocket watch carries movement serial number 24,077,961 - placing its manufacture in one of Elgin's most prolific and capable periods, when the Illinois factory was turning out reliable, well-finished timepieces for the American market.
The case is an Illinois Watch Case Co. "Spartan" in a handsome two-tone configuration: an engraved nickel silver bezel with scrolling floral and foliate motifs frames a rose gold-filled middle band, with the bow and crown also finished in rose gold. At 51mm it sits with satisfying weight and presence in the hand.
The white enamel dial is clean and honest, signed "Elgin" above centre, with bold Arabic numerals and a sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock. The blued steel hands are intact and correct. The movement winds and sets properly and runs well - a genuine working antique.
The caseback carries surface wear consistent with over a century of daily use. This is an everyday antique - a piece of American pocket watch history at an accessible price.
