The First Moscow Watch Factory
The 6МХ is the marine chronometer of the First Moscow Watch Factory, the works that signed its watches Poljot. The factory built these to the classical chronometer pattern and kept them in production from 1947 onward, fitting them to Soviet naval and merchant vessels as the ship's standard timekeeper. The construction follows the old high-grade recipe: a spring detent escapement, a fusee and chain to even the mainspring's pull from full wind to empty, a Guillaume integral balance for temperature compensation, and a diamond endstone on the detent. Each one left the bench with a passport and a rating certificate recording its performance across a run of temperature tests.
Room II · The Record
Passport dated 11 March 1993
This chronometer is supplied with its original Poljot passport and rating certificate, both stamped by the Kirov factory quality department and dated 11 March 1993, the departmental verification valid to March 1995. The rating certificate records the instrument passing its temperature tests comfortably, with an evaluation number of 14 against a permitted 30. The passport is issued in the factory's joint-stock (АО) name, from the point the works was privatised as the Soviet Union became Russia, while the dial still reads Made in USSR from earlier stock. The papers are made out to chronometer No. 19060; this instrument's dial reads 17206, so the certificate documents a sister instrument of the same model rather than this exact unit.
