Rolex, in the house green
Rolex was founded by Hans Wilsdorf in London in 1905 and has been based in Geneva since 1919. Its green, long used for its watch boxes and showroom fittings, extends to a small range of leather goods made for the firm, including this document case. It carries the crown alone, without the Rolex wordmark, and the dealer or client it was first supplied to is not recorded.
Room II · The Case
A flat folio with a handle that folds away
The case is built flat, 4.5 cm deep and 38.5 by 29 cm across the faces, in bottle-green grained leather. The handle pivots on a brass rivet at each end; folded, it lies flat in a recess let into the top band, and raised it gives a 5 cm grip. Triple embossed lines run across that band on both faces.
The top closes with a brass zip running between chromed end-stops. A riveted, stitched wrist strap hangs from the pull, whose tab is struck with a script maker's mark and SWISS. The crown sits small at the upper right of the front, in gold foil, and is the only Rolex mark on the case.

The handle folded flat into the top band; the zip open on the black-lined compartment; the case at three-quarter.
Room III · The Record
Signed with the crown, fitted with a Swiss zip

The gold-foil crown, with the zip pull and its riveted wrist strap.
The case is signed with the Rolex crown in gold foil on the front, and its zip pull is struck with a script maker's mark over SWISS. Its format, 38.5 by 29 cm with a leather handle that folds into the top band, is that of the Rolex green leather document case of the 1970s and 1980s. There are no other marks inside or out.
