A turn-of-the-century American Waltham with a pristine signed enamel dial, housed in an English gold-filled case. Wound, running and ready to wear or display.

Waltham needs little introduction. The American Waltham Watch Company of Massachusetts was one of the great names of mass-produced horology, and its movements were exported across the world at the turn of the twentieth century. This example carries the "Traveler" grade, a dependable 16-size, 7-jewel movement, and its serial number (10,224,655) dates it to around 1901.

The watch pairs that American movement with an English gold-filled case, trade-marked "A.L.D." and stamped with the period guarantee of two plates of gold with a plate of composition between, guaranteed to wear 20 years. It is an open-face design with a signed white enamel dial: crisp black Roman numerals, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at six and blued steel hands.

Condition is a real strength here. The dial is pristine, free of the chips, hairlines and staining that so often let these watches down. The crystal is near-mint, the case bright with only light honest wear, and the movement winds, runs and sets correctly. A clean, working turn-of-the-century Waltham that presents far above its modest grade.
