A Swiss pocket watch with a story carved into its back - a deeply engraved rural scene and a personal inscription dated 1923.

Made by Kaiserstunde - the watch brand of Les Fils de Numa Gagnebin, Tramelan, Switzerland - this open face pocket watch carries two layers of personal history. The caseback is engraved with a detailed agricultural scene: two figures working alongside a horse-drawn plow, framed within a decorative floral border. Turn it over and the inner case reveals a personal dedication in old German script, dated 1923 - a gift, preserved for over a century.

The white enamel dial is clean and crack-free, with Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial at six o'clock. The Swiss manual wind movement runs and winds correctly. Condition throughout is very good - honest wear consistent with its age, nothing that diminishes the character.

Kaiserstunde movements were produced in Tramelan in the Swiss Jura, with the brand's double-headed eagle mark registered from 1906. This example dates to the early twentieth century, with the 1923 inscription providing a firm anchor in time.

A characterful piece with a fine engraved caseback and dated provenance.
